Blame facebook for my complete neglect of all things blog. I have been taking the easy way out by slapping pictures up on my facebook account with complete disregard for my friends and family who haven't been sucked into the facebook black hole.

Looking back I can't believe I haven't blogged about anything since September! I missed writing about how great work has been for me, how our lives are busier than ever with running to preschool and coping with the Grade 2 workload (don't get Carter started on the stress..), about watching the boys in Tae Kwon Do which Carter is kicking ass in, a fun and family filled Christmas made incredibly special by having Joel's niece and nephew for a few days.....what else oh...my first born turning 8 years old, celebrating my 36th birthday and my Father in-law's 60th together in a snowy Saskatchewan wonderland. Now it is March and Luca is 5!

Today, Luca started playschool. I have one of the biggest kids in the class! Completely new territory!! I admit I was a bit choked up...he is my baby afterall, not to mention now I know where all this leads!

A bit late...last week Carter excitedly left for Grade 2. I don't think he slept the night before as he was just so excited and anxious to get to school. I of course took him as his back pack was so jammed with supplies it was more than half his size and definitely weighed more than him! Do you remember what the first day of school is like? The excitement of finding out who your teacher would be and who would be in your class was nearly overwhelming!

Our conversation on the way to school:

Carter: Mom, is there anything more exciting than Grade 2?

Me: Certainly not today sweetie.

I have no idea where to begin...we were completely surprised by friends and family at a party, thrown for us to celebrate our anniversary on Saturday night. Surprised is not a strong enough word..we were blown away! We walked into the Gardiner's house to drop the boys off for a sleep over and we were greeted by friends and family and a house decorated with all the tulle and other decorations from our wedding! My mom was here for a visit and brought it all from Winnipeg and Cindy & Leonard snuck into the house to retrieve it when we were at work! Joel's mom and dad were there and that was a complete shock!

It was just so awesome to see all these people we love and who really helped us make it to the 10 year milestone all together in the same room! Unforgettable!

It was a great party!

We thoroughly enjoyed this last weekend before the start of school. We got together with friends to make the last weekend before school a memorable one. We surprised the kids (2 entering pre-school, 1 entering Kindergarten and 1 on the way to Grade 2) with a rented inflatable jumpy-thing in the yard. Brianne decorated her van and picked all the boys up and had their back packs filled with back to school goodies. The kids were all surprised at the same time and were floored to see the yard. They jumped and jumped till they could jump no more!

Luca and Carter spent the past couple of days with the Gardiner's. Tanis took them to the dollar store to pick out a toy for being so good and they picked out plastic guns. Luca's is a cowboy-type rifle and Carter's is a easily concealed handgun. I don't have big hangups about "gun play" I think my generation has become sensitized because of media coverage of all the ugly school shooting and such. Anyway, Luca is quite enamoured with his weapon and last night went to be snuggled up with it like a teddy bear. Weird kid!

I biked to work yesterday. It hurt on the way to work as it is a steady, albeit slight, uphill climb. I was exhausted after work but pleased with myself. There was an ugly cloud that stopped me from getting back on today (that and the fact I would likely cry if I sat on the bike seat). I am going to try again tomorrow and hopefully a few times a week until the weather stops cooperating.

I am forever looking for something active that will keep my interest. I'd love to join an adult league and play basketball or volleyball but it is tough to find any organized sport close to home. Lee tried taekwondo and really liked it and I may look into that. I just hate the usual gym routine and need something to keep me motivated. Any suggestions??

For how long one never knows....As always I will try.

I cannot believe summer is nearly over and in less than a week Carter will be entering Grade 2 and Luca will be in Pre-School. Where is time going? For the 1st time I really want to stop freeze time and keep my boys the way they are right now. Their personalities are so different yet they play so well together and genuinely really love each other. I hope they are close forever.

We had a great summer vacation in Nanaimo, BC the 1st week of August. As always the island provided great weather and the house we stayed in was a few steps from Long Lake. The kids loved lake swimming!

A Childless Week

The boys have been in Saskatoon with Nana and Papa since Canada Day. We have been so ridiculously relaxed I even checked my blood pressure for kicks at Safeway while I waited to Joel to have a perscription filled...116 over 68....nice!

Being relaxed has been the best part. Not feeling rushed to get supper going the minute I walk in the door, not managing the boys schedules on top of my own. Getting stuff done around the house without a million interruptions. BUT....I miss them quite a bit. The weekend was bliss but I am more than ready for them to come home. No tears but I did sit on Luca's bed for a few minutes the other night lol...

We headed out for our 1st camping trip of the season. We had lots of fun, great weather and even better food! After Joel's open fire steaks he cooked last year nobody thought he could top it but alas give that man a food challenge and Iron Chef Joel will come through! Saturday night supper was prime rib on a bun with au jus. He circled around the fire for about 2 1/2 hours to make it just perfect! The campground was right on the North Saskatachewan River, which made for some prime rock pickin'.

Hey Iris Evans....bite me!

I may be in the minority but I feel the "early years" are more about keeping kids safe, providing a stable home life. My boys are thriving....despite having 2 working parents and I would dare say because they have 2 working parents!

I have worked my ass off to get to a point in my career where I will be there when my boys get off the school bus in Grade 3 and on cause that is when I think all the hard work of teaching them to be good people and good citizens can fall off the rails.

Economic realities aside imagine what she must think about women who make a conscious choice to work outside the home......The never ending debate about stay at home vs. working moms is so incredible tiresome. No matter what women are left to doubt their decisions and ultimately themselves. It is hard enough parent without this bullshit.

Yep...I am writing my very 1st letter to an MLA. I bet my Mom and Dad are proud!

A quick update:

New Job

week 2 of my new job as Technical Affairs Manager (affectionately referred to as TA...insert rolling eyes here) at Cargill Meats Canada.
A bit of background on what we do here - ALL THE MCDONALD"S HAMBURGER PATTIES IN CANADA!! That is approximately 1.2 million pounds of burgers a week.
So far I am very happy here . Great people, great communication, all in all it is great great great!

Boys

Busy as usual. I can't believe Carter is wrapping up Grade 1 in a couple of weeks. Thank goodness Luca still has another year before starting Kindergarten. I have him starting pre-school in September. Just 2 afternoons a week.

Jackie (our sitter) is taking the summer off which has made us get a bit creative with our summer plans. The boys are spending a week and a half in S'toon with Nana and Papa. They are super excited. They keep talking about being there without Mom and Dad. I can't say we are not equally excited about being at home without them but I am pretty sure by the mid-way point I'll be missing them like crazy! I remember the weeks Lee and I spent in Elgin and I am so glad my boys get to make the same kind of memories.
I have Carter registered for a few weeks of day camp through the summer and Luca will be hanging out with Tanis (a friend and back up caregiver) and her girls.

We have officially started building the deck. nuff'said for now.

I am now a serious migraine sufferer like the rest of the women in my family. My doc hooked me up with Zomig a drug that works well for Lee so I hope it does the same for me.

We have been having a blast but wow is this fun and sun exhausting!!

San Diego was beautiful. I'd really like to go back for an adult only vacation and really see some sights. I loved Sea World and Legoland was neat-o.

We have had incredible weather. Clear blue skies and warm but not too hot. It is comical to see the locals in sweatshirts and jeans cause the temp has "dipped" below the 25*C mark. We have worn shorts everyday.

Tomorrow we are back to Disneyland!

We started the day with breakfast at La Brae Bakery in Downtown Disney. The very best cup of coffee we have had since arriving in the USofA. I always miss Timmies on the this side of the border.

We met a few of Luca's hero's today. Mater, Lightening McQueen and.....WOODY!!!

Luca bravely went up to Woody to show off his t-shirt, asked him to sign his autograph book and gave him a huge hug! It was awesome and he hasn't stopped talking about it!

We started out the day with breakfast at Goofy`s Kitchen. The food was great and we had our 1st encounters with Pluto, Goofy, Baloo, Genie, Pricess Aurora and Alice. Luca was not at all impressed to meet Baloo (translate scared shitless) while Carter showed each and everyone lots of love! Hugs for everyone. It would seem 7 is the ideal age for Disney Magic.

My Mom is game for anything! One of the funniest things over the holidays was watching Mom play Rockband with Joel! I was making the stuffing and prepping the night before Christmas eve dinner and Joel and Mom were rocking out in the basement. I called Lee and held up the phone so she could hear Joel singing and Mom playing drums on Ballroom Blitz! She "rocked out" a number of times with the family band! Unfortunately no pics of Mom you'll just have to take my word for it.

To Blog or not to Blog......

I seem to be having difficulties keeping up with my blog. It isn't that nothing is going on...maybe too much. Alas I am undecided whether to keep it up or not......

We had a very quiet Christmas. Mom staying with us for nearly a week. Unfortunately, Lee's kiddos were sick so we weren't able to spent any time with them which was disappointing but there are so many nasty bugs going around it wasn't worth getting my boys sick.

Our big plans for January include a trip to DISNEYLAND!!! Having never been myself I am beyond excited! We leave on the 28th of January for a week. We are not telling the kids yet as they will be a bit too annoying with the countdown...Luca simply will be unbearable!

Ladies Night - Wedding Edition

The day after Halloween was our monthly Ladies Night get together and instead of donning costumes we all slipped into our wedding dresses! I sent out the following invite to the girls:

I am pleased to report we could all get into our dresses. Some zippers didn't go all the way up, some couldn't sit for any length of time and some had limited mobility but we all wore them!! We rocked the night away playing Rock Band, eating, drinking and laughing.

The weather for Halloween this year was certainly the best in recent memory. No snow and I don't believe it dipped below 5*C. No snowsuits required! In case it is not obvious, Luca dressed as Raphael (his favorite TMNT) and Carter was Indiana Jones.

HELLO! I am sure everyone is shocked that I am updating but after many less than subtle hints from family and friends I give you.....a new post.

Where to start.....

PRESCHOOL

Luca has started going to a playschool class one morning a week. He LOVES it. He especially loves his teacher Mrs. Mann.

HOCKEY
Carter has started hockey. Yes, hockey. As I sat in the rink, freezing at 8:00am on Saturday I thought I was suddenly part of a secret society I never thought I would be a part of (nor did I want to be)! But I have to admit it was so much fun watching him on the ice. He loves it. After 2 weekends of practices he loves it and asks pretty much everyday if he is going to the rink. I imagine Joel and I will be spending a lot of time in arenas the next few years.

NEW JOB

I finished my 1st week at my new job. I have left Sobeys after 5 long years. I am the Director of Quality Assurance for Canyon Creek Soup Co. So far so good. I definitely I my challenges but feel like 90% of my life stresses were left behind at Sobeys. I had a bit of Blackberry withdrawal the 1st few day but it now feels great to be unplugged.

THANKSGIVING

Joel's Mom and Dad came for the weekend and we had such a great visit. Carter was happy to have them watch him play hockey and Luca was happy to have his Papa. Papa even spent some time playing Wii with Carter. I have to admit our Turkey Day was awesome! Good food, good company and lots to be thankful for.

Carter is officially done with kindergarten! I found myself a bit sad/teary but watching him at the final concert it was so clear that he was ready for Grade 1. We are so certain that our decision to keep him back a year was the right thing to do. The boy he is standing in the last picture is bigger than all the other kids...yes, Carter is small but that child is HUGE!

I hope everyone had a wonderful day. I had a great day! Joel prepared a feast this morning that I was lucky enough to enjoy with my own Mom. My boys presented me with some handmade treasures. I took a nap before enjoying a solitary wonder through the greenhouse dreaming of future landscaping, went to the library, watched a movie by myself (P.S. I Love You.....it was a bit of a tear jerker and maybe a bit sappy but I liked it).

Luca decided he wanted to be dressed up for most of the weekend. The Batman costume is way to big and the Jack Jack costume is too small but he didn't seem to mind.

We are off to Banff for the long weekend and we are all VERY excited! We are staying at the Douglas Fir Resort (http://www.douglasfir.com/) which is very family friendly so if the weather doesn't cooperate we will have plenty to do. I told Luca we could go for a pony ride and he went to bed tonight asking if tomorrow was "horsey day".

8 lbs Down and Vegas Bound!

Well, I am happy to report I am down 8lbs! I can't believe how well I am doing and how great I am feeling. I am actually enjoying the gym......I have been going strong for the last 3 weeks so I am hoping I can keep it up.

We have booked a getaway to Vegas at the end of this month for a much needed break from reality. We have been trying to getaway with Tanis and Quentin forever and the planets have finally aligned to make it happen!

My niece was born this evening at 6:08pm. I was away on a work trip up to Grande Prairie and Lee called me at 8:30am this morning to tell me her water had broken..............2 1/2 weeks early! The plan was for me to be her labour support again and I thought it would be safe to be away but she and babe had other plans! I made it to the hospital around 6:00pm and the little sweetie waited for me and made her arrival at 6:08pm.

I am sitting in a small hotel room in Peace River. I am here to conduct 2 Food Safety Certification courses, one here and one in Grande Prairie. Normally, I have "people" to do this sort of thing but I am short staffed at the moment so I thought it prudent to take on the training myself. I don't mind too much as I get out of the office but the evening are quite boring in places like this. Not much to do in Peace River. I try and force myself to relax and enjoy the quiet and get some work done.

I am doing well on the "exercise/weight loss project". My friend Brianne & I have a Biggest Loser challenge for the next two months. We are having weigh-ins every week to track our losses. At every 2nd week weigh in the one who loses the least amount has to pay the other $20. If that person gains.....the payment is doubled to $40! Money talks so we are both fairy motivated. I won the 1st pay day by losing 0.2 lb more than her! It is going to be a FIERCE competition!

Making April All About ME!

Well, I need some encouragement! I am going to attempt to get some exercise and hopefully drop a few pounds in April. I need a kick-start in yet another get-in-shape attempt.

I am going to be counting my points (weight watchers) and I am contemplating registering in Club Fit Boot Camp. The Boot Camp is 2 mornings a week for 6 weeks of all outdoor workouts. I need to try something different because I refuse to join a gym (hate it) or commit to walking in the evenings. I really don't like working out by myself. If I had a dedicated work-out partner I would entertain the idea of going to the gym but I despise going alone. I need a group activity to get me motivated. I still miss high school sports! I think I should be able to commit to 6 weeks. I would just like my clothes to fit better....I have no other lofty goals.

Keeping the Toothfairy Busy!

In the last 2 weeks Carter has lost his two top teeth. For a couple of days he was down just one on top and he honestly looked hideous! The one tooth left was hanging on and it was grayish in color because the root had detached. I could barely look at him! Joel told him his cute days were behind him. Now that they are both out I think he looks adorable but his adult teeth will most certainly come in much too big for his mouth and he'll go through that awkward looking stage all boys go through.

Luca's 3rd Birthday

Luca's 3rd birthday was this past Sunday and he was so happy it was HIS day to celebrate with his friends! We've been to a number of birthday parties and he had a hard time waiting for his own. He wanted a Ninja Turtles party so...that is what he got!

I must say I was very happy with how the cake turned out.

I cut pieces of fabric for Ninja headbands and the kids basically ran around and played. It was fun and exhausting. But a good time was had by all!

The party wrapped up around 4:45pm and by 5:00pm Luca was running around with his Ninja headband and nothing else on. That boy does not enjoy being dressed!

Family Day Walk in the Forest

We went out and about on Family Day (Feb 18) and told Luca we were going to go for a walk in the Diego Forest. He was disappointed we didn't spot any polar bears, penguins or the Bo Bo Brothers (they are monkeys for those not in the loop).

I figured out why I am having such a hard time keeping up with my blog! Since I can no longer access "blogs" and other "networking sites" at work I can't find the time oro the desire at home in the evenings. I have time to procrastinate at work but not at home! I will try harder.

Another frigid weekend

I am so so very very tired of winter! I love the seasons and I don't think I could live somewhere without them but enough is enough! I am sick of being stuck in the house. We have had some seriously lazy weekends which we have most certainly earned but it would be nice to have some weather that we could be outside in. We have only been sledding once and I would like to take Carter skiing this year as well but the wind chills have been fierce.

January and February so far have been just rotten for us. Nothing specific but Joel and I both have been down right depressed. Serious winter blahs.

I think I am having the 5 year itch at work. I have been at Sobeys for nearly 5 years now and find myself itching for a new challenge. The practical side of me know I need to sit tight and wait until the boys are both in school full time and then do something entirely different. Maybe go back to school....not sure.

On a brighter note we are going out for dinner tonight! Babysitter is lined up and we are going out with friends to celebrate birthdays! It is our friend Brianne's b-day today and mine on Tuesday.

We had a LEGO party yesterday to celebrate Carter's 6th Birthday. Of course being a January birthday one never can count on the weather and this year (much like the year he was born) was horrible! Wind Chill warnings, blizzard conditions. Luckily we planned to have the party at home. The kids played a few games (including a Lego Star Wars BINGO game I downloaded off the internet) and played with lego. It was remarkably low key. Not what we are used to but I guess our boy is growing up along with all his friends.

As you can imagine, the boys were very excited about Christmas this year. It certainly helped to have Carter to enlighten Luca about Santa. Carter convinced Luca to sit with Santa. Luca was a bit tentative but sat for the picture and asked Santa for a fire truck which Santa of course delivered. We have another believer!

We hosted dinner on Christmas eve for Mom, Lee and her family. Everyone slept over to enjoy Christmas morning together.

We had no problem getting the boys to bed thanks to the Norad Santa Claus tracking website! If you have never checked it out you MUST next year. We checked it out around 9:15pm on Christmas eve and the radar showed Santa in Quebec. When Carter realized he was in Canada he took Luca and bolted to bed. He told us to get to bed as well!

Since we got home from Hawaii we have been going non-stop! We starting renovating the basement before we left and we had to get all the painting done before the carpet was installed a week after we got home. Now all that is left is the finishing work (baseboards etc.) which may take the next 10 years to get done but it is great to have even more space for everyone to hang out. We built a family room, a small office and a guest room. We moved the TV and the Wii down there so the bonus room over the garage is now what I like to call the "quiet contemplation room". Bookcases, the piano and a couch. Bliss......

There were DOLPHINS!

We went snorkeling this morning at La Persouse Bay. The snorkeling spot is located just past the lava fields about as far south as you can go on the island. We parked and walked in on the very rocky shore. Definitely not a swimming beach. We heard some fellow snorkelers almost whispering about a school of dolphins nearby. We nervously looked at the spot we would have to enter the water and it was a bit intimidating. Pretty much all jutting lava rocks before into the deep water. Then we saw the dolphins frolicking in the distance and we got our gear ready and got into the water. As we swam out we saw fish we had never seen and passed a big sea turtle. We had spotted a sea turtle yesterday which we had figured would be the highlight of our snorkeling adventures. Not so....today the four of us swam with the dolphins. Not in an aquarium with tame dolphins, in the open ocean beside wild dolphins. There were about 20 of them and about 10 snorkelers spread out. People were so excited as you can imagine this doesn't happen everyday. We had an underwater camera but haven't had them developed (remember developing film?!?!). The pics below are not my pics....in case it wasn't that obvious. Hopefully some of ours will turn out.

We were pretty pumped after snorkeling and it was only 10:00am. We stopped at Polo Beach and hit the waves for some boogie boarding. After an hour and a half of that we were starving and it was time for lunch and a nap.

The boys are getting supper ready and after we eat we are heading to the Maui Ocean Center.
After that there will need to be some hot tub time.....snorkeling is a lot of exercise.

At the Iao Needle

'Iao Valley is the site of one of the most famous battles that occurred in 1790 and changed Hawaii history forever when King Kamehameha I destroyed the Maui army in an effort to unite the Hawaiian Islands.

It is day 3 and I have to admit I am starting to miss my boys. This definately was not the holiday to bring them along considering all the stuff we've been able to do but I am missing them.

Of course I will try (said with great sarcasm) and enjoy the rest of the trip.

Today was a rainy day. We went out on a bit of a road trip to see the IAO Needle and over to the North Shore to see some big waves.

We had fish and shrimp at a little fish market/restaurant called Eskimo Candy. Leonard and I finally got to satisfy our coconut shrimp craving. We had hoped to get to Bubba Gumps for shrimp but it is in Lahaina and we were there already. From where we are it is quite a drive.

Last night we hit a highly recommended sushi restaurant for Sushi. I am not normally a big sushi eater but this was an eating experience! Mmmmmm....it was all delicious!!

Late this afternoon the skies seemed to lighten up a bit and we decided to get to the beach. Well, I would say we cheated death a bit venturing into the waves to boogie board in the roughest surf any of us had been in. We were all very smart about it but MAN water is strong! We were all very full of sand....sand was everywhere (from eyelids to ..... you get the idea) but it was so much fun. I can't pick what I like more snorkeling or boogie boarding.

I don't have any pictures from today but here are some beach shots from yesterday.

We are eating in tonight. Joel is grilling some Marlin steaks then it is off to do some shopping!

We were up early this morning to head out for our 1st snorkeling excursion. We headed to Ulua Beach in the hope of finding sea turtles. I love snorkeling!! It takes some practice to get the hang of it but once you do it is remarkable! The coral and the fish....amazing.

We are back at the condo getting dressed to head to lunch then on to Lahaina for some shopping and then the Old Lahaina Luau.

We met the sunset this morning a top the Haleakala Crater at 10,000 ft. above sea level. It took nearly 2 hours to go up the road. The road was ALL switchbacks. I thought about Lee......she should NEVER do this! Anyone subject to car sickness would not find it enjoyable. None of us felt any ill effects from the altitude or winding roads. The pay off was a remarkable experience. It was freezing cold and very windy. We knew what to expect but WOW it was very cold.

We huddled together and waited for the sun to peak over the clouds we were looking down on. We also watched all the other people waiting with us. Some were in many layers of jackets, towels, blankets, sheets. And there were some morons wearing shorts and light jackets. They were more fun to watch!

On our way back down the mountain we had our 1st look at Maui in the day light. We arrived Saturday night after the sun went down. It was poetic to start our 1st full day in Hawaii with the sunrise.

We are a pretty tired bunch today. We left Edmonton yesterday at 7am which meant an early trip to the airport (up at 4am) and arriving in Maui around 5:30pm. We went for a quick supper and a Mai Tai (YUM) and groceries. To bed by 10pm in order to get up for the sunrise we were up at 3:30am. We are now up from our 3 hour nap and ready to check out the BEACH!

By for now...........oh one more thing...................

For once we enjoyed a Halloween without snow, without rain, without windchill and without SNOWSUITS!!

After some trick-or-treating outside we went to visit Cindy who was working at the hospital. I showed Luca where he was born and he said, "I know Mama!" Carter didn't quite understand why we were visiting Cindy at the hospital. He asked if she was picking up a baby. LOL! I guess he remembers us "picking up" Luca and Lee "picking up" Ronan. Such a simple mind.

I must apologize for being such an unreliable blogger lately! October was very busy. Lots of company, renos starting in the basement. We have the basement framed and the wiring done and drywall starts this weekend. On top of that we are getting ready for MAUI! We leave in 24 days!!

We had a great time with Darryl, Tanya and little Liam. They came to town 2 weeks ago for a wedding and we spent the weekend visiting, laughing and playing the Wii. Last week Carter had his 1st day of school. He was so excited to get back to school! He woke up everyday the last week of August asking if it was a school day. He seems unfazed by the fact he is repeating kindergarten and I am feeling very confident we have done the best thing for him. It feels as if we have given him a gift. The gift of time. Time to build his confidence and maturity not to mention the time to "play" for one more year. He will be walking into Grade 1 at this time next year being able to read and ready to learn even more. The jump from Kindy to Grade 1 is not easy for some kids and I want Carter to have every opportunity to succeed and hopefully love school.

We had a great time in Nanaimo! I can't believe it is over and we are back to work already.....so hard to get motivated!

The boys were really good on the drive. We had it well broken up on the way there so it wasn't too tough. They loved the ferry ride and the house we rented was perfect for us. We swam in the pool, soaked in the hot tub. waded in the ocean, had a day in Victoria and RELAXED! It was a perfect family vacation!

A Visit from the Tooth Fairy

I received a phone call from a very excited little boy yesterday.

"Mom.....you know that loose tooth I had????? It fell OUT!!!"

OMG he was excited! He was feeling sorry for Connor (babysitters 5 year old) cause he was upset his teeth weren't falling too. So Carter told me he wanted to give his next tooth to Connor so he could "get money too".

I had no clue what the going rate for a tooth was these days so I asked the question on a parenting website I visit (http://www.linkingparents.com/) and boy the tooth fairy is very generous is some families! Some said as high as $50 for the 1st tooth, some said $10 to $20 for the 1st tooth, some said $2-5. Well, the cheapos we are we left a twoonie and he has never been happier! He was so excited he couldn't wait to put it in the piggy bank.

We leave for holidays on Friday and I am exhausted from being up too late every night getting ready, making lists, and thinking about too many details. It is a lot of work to get ready to relax!

Isn't she cute!! We finally broke down and traded in the Taurus (aka Lazy Boy on wheels) and purchased this sweet little 2007 Honda Fit 5 speed. It is the perfect car for Joel to take to and from work everyday. We use my company vehicle and its free gas for virtually everything so we really didn't need two large vehicles. This one is so fun to drive!

Carter and I went on a quick trip to Winnipeg last weekend. We were lucky enough to see our good friends Charlotte and McKinley for a quick breakfast...It is always good to see them. We always seem to be able to sit down and chat like it hasn't been months since we last saw each other! Another year Carter and McK can get their own table!!

We are planning our 1st camping trip with the kids this weekend. We are really excited! We bought a new tent as the one we had was simply too small for the 4 of us. Well, I had the most exciting day of golfing yesterday! Sobeys is a major sponsor of the Telus Edmonton Open (http://www.telusedmontonopen.com/headlines.html)
which is one of the tournaments stops on the Canadian Pro Tour and I got to play in the Pro-Am event! I will likely never play on a nicer course in my life! I got to ride in the cart with the professional assigned to our team and his name was Ryan Thornberry. I will definitely be watching for him once he make the PGA!

I won the prize for closest to the pin (ladies) which was a $150 gift certificate for the pro shop. I can tell you that $150 doesn't buy much! There were also pretty sweet gift bags too.

What a fun day and the weather was gorgeous! I thought about how much Nana would have got a kick out of hearing about it.

We are going to MAUI!! We are going to book this weekend and go for a week with Cindy & Leonard. We are busting!! Last night Luca went to bed without his "sucky". He doesn't have it at the babysitter's house anymore and he has only been asking for it for bed time but last night he didn't say a word about it so we didn't offer.

If anyone is still visiting my blog....my apologies for being so delinquent. There has been plenty going on so I will get right to it!

Carter has his 1st loose tooth!! That is likely the biggest news in our world at the moment (according to him).

School has wrapped up for the year. Last week was the final concert and of course it was fantastic. As you can imagine, Carter is quite the preformer.

Two weeks ago I accompanied the class on the last field trip of the year. About 35 kindergarten kids and a few parents and teachers went on a transportation adventure. Took the school bus to downtown Edmonton and hopped on a city bus. Rode the bus to the LRT station and went for a ride and the kids loved riding "underground". We then got on the High Level Streetcar for a ride across the High Level Bridge. I managed to contain my fear of heights. http://www.oldstrathcona.ca/index.html
We then had a picnic at Kinsmen Park. It was a great day!

We have made all the arrangements for Carter to spend a second year in Kindergarten. He seems to be unfazed by the whole idea. On the last day of school many kids were talking about Grade 1 and I told Carter as we were leaving the school that I thought he was very lucky to be going to Kindergarten again and he agreed.

Joel and I are contemplating a trip to Hawaii in November with Cindy and Leonard. Their travel companions are now not able to go and we may just bite the bullet and do it. It would be a 2 bedroom condo in Maui. May be too sweet an opportunity to pass up.

I am also being wooed by a head hunter for a position in Langley BC. Not ready to go into details but it is an interesting prospect to say the least.

We are still without a driveway, sidewalk or grass at home. That is getting frustrating to say the least.

What a Great Weekend!

The weekend was packed with good times!!

Friday was Ladies Night and as always was tons of fun. It was out at a girlfriends beautiful acreage and we enjoyed the drinks, food, hot tub, fire pit and of course many laughs. It is a great group of women and a big change from the past few years. I didn't crawl into bed until 3:00am! I still don't think I have recovered. Gone are the days I could get up and do it all over again the next day. Luckily for me Joel's mom was in town for Sunday's big concert and the two of them took the kids to the mall so I got to catch up on some much needed sleep.

Saturday night Joel's Mom wanted some time with the boys so we obliged and "let" her have them all to herself for the evening while we went for dinner at Bob & Marnie's. Supper was great as always and it was great to catch up with them as it has been a very long time since we have spent time with them.

Sunday was the big concert. Joel and the orchestra did fabulously! It was such a great afternoon and I am super proud to be married to such a talented fella. He was so relieved it was over. Joel's mom was very happy she came as well.

Me: I'm not sure but he died a long, long time ago.

Carter: Did you know he was poisoned?

Carter: Dad told me. It's too bad cause I really like Beethoven.

He really does like Beethoven. We have a ghetto blaster in the basement and he has a few of his favorite CDs down there to choose from. More often than not it is Beethoven blasting away while he is playing. Now you are all thinking he is a budding little music geek like his Dad but his favorite CD in the car right now is Tim McGraw! His musical taste is wide-ranging. How could it not be!

Luca is starting to sing. He tried to sing O Canada anytime he see the color red!

This year Nova Musica Society orchestra reaches its
twenty-fifth year as an Edmonton community based ensemble, and is proud to celebrate this anniversary with a special commemorative concert shared with the
public on Sunday May 27, 2 pm, at Edmonton City Hall's City Room--honoring this significant milestone at the heart of Edmonton.

Nova Musica has made a "concerted" effort to mark this
concert as special and historic. The 25th Anniversary
event will premiere a work of music commissioned for
the gala, composed by its current conductor Joel Tomlenovich, titled Allegro, Adagio & Celebration.
This commission includes parts for voice performed by
collaborative guests Victoria School Jazz Choir,
with additional choir selections under the direction of
Bruce Cable. Conductor Tomlenovich will also lead
the orchestra in opening the concert with the first three
movements of Georges Bizet's spirited Symphony No.1
As an appreciative retrospective, illustrious Nova
alumni are featured. Founding conductor Richard
Caldwell (violinist member of the Edmonton Symphony
Orchestra since 1973) returns as guest maestro for
the program selections of C. Saint Saens' Bacchanale
from"Samson and Delilah" (arr. M. Isaac), and a baroque
favorite Brandenburg III concerto for strings by J.S.
Bach. Also included in this varied program is an
arrangement of Argentine Tango, El Choclo,
created by Nova alumni conductor (1998-2002) Dr. Blyth
Nuttall (Concordia University College of Alberta, School of
Music). Sure to be engaging, master of ceremonies
for
the Nova Musica Celebrates 25 Years concert will be
Bill Dimmer (Edmonton Symphony Orchestra trumpeter
since 1971, and narrator of the ESO's Educational
Concert series), also conducted the Nova ensemble
from 1996-1998.
Trumpet player Joel Tomlenovich, began conducting,
composing and arranging for brass and wind Bands in
his teens. His music degree in performance was
completed at the University of Saskatchewan; he
studied trumpet with Larry House and conducting with
Dwaine Nelson and Marvin Eckroft. Joel worked in
Saskatoon conducting various ensembles, continuing
to compose and arrange, and has garnered recognition
such as the Bronze Medal from the Hannaford Street Silver
Band March Competition for his composition Bessborough
Park. Shortly after moving to Edmonton Joel began
working with Nova in fall 2002, which he continues
to inspire with a bold imagination and his appreciation
for a wide array of music.

Nova Musica, an adult amateur community orchestra,
isan ensemble comprised of non-professional musicians
devoted to their passion for creating music and
providing opportunity for amateur musicians to
continue to develop their skills through challenging
and varied repertoire. They have been providing
ongoing community service senior outreach concerts
over these twenty-five years, and are committed to
accessible public music performance to Edmonton and
surrounding area audiences. In keeping with this
long-standing commitment, the ensemble looks forward
to celebrating with the community free admittance in
the "people's building" of City Hall, and 25th

Carter made a beautiful clay hand print at school and the boys potted some petunias at the babysitter's. Joel made me breakfast and I spend the afternoon with Tanis and we went to a craft sale, walked Whyte Avenue and had lunch while the guys looked after the kids. It was a great day!

It is so hard when your kids are sad. Carter came home from school last week with this old beat up white car. Bigger than a Hotwheels car and it had doors that opened. I asked him where he got and he made up a story that his teacher gave it to him. I figured it was a fib because I really didn't think his teacher would give him an old toy so I questioned his story. Many stories later it turned out he found it on the playground so we told him he would have to take it back to school and ask his teacher if it belonged to someone else. By the end of the day it hadn't been claimed (neither the teacher nor I figured it would be) so he was allowed to take it home. That was Friday and he has carried the car around all weekend, doesn't let Luca touch it and he decided to take it school again today as it's his take for show and share. Big mistake.....someone on the bus claimed it was his. So, my wonderful little boy hands it over. He completely broke down crying telling me he found the owner and he loved the car so much and we would never find one like it because it was from Niagara Falls. Niagara Falls????? I don't know where he comes up with this stuff! He cried for half and hour straight and was inconsolable.

We had a wonderful Spring weekend. Time with friends on Saturday and Sunday we went for a long walk. Completely wore out the dog and Joel as he carried Luca in the backpack carrier. Luca is a heavy little man! Our main reason for our walk was to take Carter for a haircut at the Cut-a-Thon for Cancer fundraiser some people I know were organizing. $10 a cut and all the proceeds went to raise funds for the Cancer Society. It was outside in a tent in the Safeway parking lot in Spruce Grove. Carter ended up in the chair when the camara crew from Global News was on site and we all watched the clip on the news that night. You can imagine how cool he thought that was!

Sorry I have been a bit slow keeping up with the blog. Hopefully I can get back on track.

More excitement this week.........Carter starts Baseball this Thursday!! I am really excited. He keeps saying he wants to play soccer again but deep down I really really want him to love playing ball.

Parent - Teacher Interview

It was parent teacher interviews at school last night. It is so fun to see what he's been up to and how much he is learning at school. His teacher kept saying what a big heart Carter has. That make me so happy! I want nothing more than my boys to grow up to be caring and kind.

Long Time no Blog

I have been terribly neglectful in updating my blog the last few weeks. I have been travelling a bit for work lately. Winnipeg for a day last week, Toronto for a day this week and next week I am speaking at a conference in Calgary. I'm tired to say the least!

The boys are great. The weather is finally starting to feel like spring! We have booked our 1st family vacation! We spend all our holiday time travelling to Winnipeg and Saskatoon to be with family but this summer we are selfishly going the opposite direction to Vancouver Island!

We have booked this vacation rental in Nanaimo for a week in August.
